Harris\nCounty Flood District (HCFD) identified the foot bridge between the west\nparking lot of Lakewood Church of Christ and the South border of GCCISD\nproperty as a bridge with no owner. HCFD has a mandate to find owners for all\nthe bridges that cross their drainage ditches or, if no owner, to remove the\nbridge. This bridge was installed sometime in the 1970\u2019s to divert foot traffic\nfrom Bayway and provide a more direct path to the schools. There is no clear\nrecord of the bridge ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nperimeter security issue is important enough to GCCISD that they are not\nwilling to accept ownership of the bridge and keep the gate open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
LCA\nhas been discussing, first with GCCISD and then the City, the foot traffic\nconcern resulting from the closing of the foot bridge. The closing was going to\ndivert foot traffic down Bayway and down Honeysuckle where there are no\nsidewalks and the same deep ditch to cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
GCCISD\ndoes agree foot traffic after the closing of the bridge is a concern and needs\nto be addressed. The City and GCCISD are working together on a plan to build a\nnew bridge near Bayway and put in the connecting sidewalks. They are working\ntogether to pursue an available grant for the funding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
LCA will\ncontinue to follow this issue. The existing bridge will be removed,\nlikely within the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
