***Road Closures Around Lakewood on Friday Evenings

Notice of Heavy Transport – Expect delays

***All closures are weather permitting

Oversized heavy transports will be making their way down Decker Drive from the San Jacinto River to Shady Hill Drive on the following weekends: April 17, April 24, and May 1. The haul will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and is expected to last at least 13 hours. During this time, portions of Decker Drive will be closed for the move including areas between Lynchburg and Bayway Drive and also Baker Road to Rollingbrook. The Spur 330 Rollingbrook exit will remain open during the transport. Other roadways will be closed as the transport is passing, but will reopen after it passes. Recommendation is to avoid these areas if possible or plan for delays along the route. Police will be escorting the transport, so please use caution and follow all traffic signs and officer instructions.

Minutes of Lakewood Civic Association Annual Meeting—May 13, 2014

Annual Meeting—May 13, 2014

Welcome—President Randy Dickey called the meeting to order and welcomed those attending.

Board member election results—Randy introduced the newly elected board members: Mary Bagwell, Mary Ann Beltz, Randy Dickey, Frank McKay. He also recognized those members who have another year to serve on their two-year terms: Bobby Bonds, Dell Cantrell, Tim Christensen, and JoAnne Eve and thanked the outgoing member, Denise Pratt.

Treasurer’s Report—Treasurer Frank McKay reported a detailed account of income and expenses with a 24% increase in funds compared to last year. We have not yet paid the insurance on the boat launch and the budget also recovered from a major expenses from last year (a large water bill from an undetected leak on one of the subdivision entrance signs). Upon request, a detailed report is available to members who did not attend.

Guest Speaker—The meeting’s guest speakers were from ExxonMobil. Tim Covington, Construction and SHE manager, discussed the upcoming large ExxonMobil projects in Baytown and Mont Belvieu to process shale gas and how traffic and noise would be mitigated. Next Sasha Easley, ExxonMobil environment, discussed the work the company has been doing to reduce emissions. Questions from the attendees were also answered by Deedra Moe and Connie Tilton from ExxonMobil Public and Government Affairs.

City Councilman Report—City Council Brandon Capetillo discussed the following:
1. Council’s efforts to improve major cross-town streets such as the extension of Baker Road to the east.
2. The new Kroger Market Place on Garth near Academy
3. Improved road planning to help work traffic congestion.
4. Council’s efforts to attract more retail business to Baytown

Club reports—
Mary Ann Beltz, Lakewood Garden Club thanked the association for their support.

James Springer, the Lakewood Pool Club president, announced that their annual all day garage sale-fundraiser will be held Saturday, May 24, at the Lakewood Pool, 233 Greenbriar. BBQ Sandwich plates will be sold from 11:00 a.m. until “gone.” Free swimming will be available all day. Donations for the garage sale can be dropped off at 116 Caldwell at any time prior to May 24. Pick-up of items being donated is available.

Chet Thesis invited people to participate in Lakewood Neighborhood Watch. Officer Stewart Beasley gave a run down on Baytown crime and requested we continue to watch out for our neighbors and call the police if we see something unusual.

Annual Meeting – May 13, 2014

The Lakewood Civic Association annual meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th at 7PM at the Lakewood Church of Christ (corner of Honeysuckle and Bayway). Our guest Speaker will be from ExxonMobil discussing the expansion and other activities affecting the community. All residents and property owners are invited.

 

Ballots for the election of new board members will be in the mail in April.

 Lakewood Civic Association Annual Meeting—May 21, 2013

 Welcome—President Randy Dickey called the meeting to order and welcomed those attending.

Board member election results—Randy introduced the newly elected board members:  Bobby Bonds, Dell Cantrell, Tim Christensen, and JoAnne Eve.  He also recognized those members who have another year to serve on their two-year terms:  Mary Bagwell, Randy Dickey, Frank McKay, and Denise Pratt and thanked the outgoing members, Martha Goolsby and Monica Chauviere.

Treasurer’s Report—Treasurer Frank McKay reported a detailed account of income and expenses with a 4% increase in funds compared to last year. One of the major expenses was a large water bill from an undetected leak on one of the subdivision entrance signs. Upon request, a detailed report is available to members who did not attend.

Guest Speaker—The meeting’s guest speaker was Kelly Carpenter, who is the Baytown Director of Planning and Development Services. She is also a resident of Lakewood. Ms. Carpenter’s presentation focused on the recently enacted Baytown Zoning Ordinance and its impact on Lakewood. The main influence is the limiting of commercial construction adjacent to the  neighborhood and more requirements for home new construction.

City Councilman Report—City Council Brandon Capetillo discussed the following:

1.       The expected long term positive effects of new zoning.

2.       Council’s efforts to improve major cross-town streets such as the extension of Baker Road to the east.

3.       Completion of the painting of the city water towers

4.       City’s positive budget status

In response to a discussion of the traffic issues created by lengthy trains at various railroad crossings in the city, Brandon indicated that he would investigate potential solutions.

Club reports—

Helen Kerr, Lakewood Garden Club thanked the association for their support.

James Springer, the Lakewood Pool Club president, announced that their annual garage sale-fundraiser will be held Saturday, May 25, at the Lakewood Pool, 233 Greenbriar.  BBQ Sandwich plates will be sold from 11:00 a.m. until “gone.” Free swimming will be available from 12:00-8:00 p.m.  Donations for the garage sale can be dropped off at 116 Caldwell at any time prior to May 25.  Pick-up of items being donated is available.

Lindy Mouton mentioned that she would be conducting water aerobics classes at the pool.  For details, search the web for “Lakewood Pool Baytown.”

2013 Lakewood Civic Association Annual Meeting Tues, May 21st.

The board has set Tuesday May 21, 2013 as the annual meeting of association members. The meeting will start at 7PM and will be at the Lakewood Church of Christ at 7701 Bayway (at Honeysuckle). All residents of Lakewood are invited. The guest speaker will be Kelly Carpenter to discuss the impact of the newly adopted city zoning law on Lakewood. The newsletter and ballot for new board members will be mailed to Lakewood residents in late April.

Zoning Remapping Meeting – July 10 – Travis Elem.

The City of Baytown representatives will present the proposed new Zoning map for the Lakewood area on July 10, 2012 at 6PM at Travis Elementary. This will be the second meeting to introduce this to the public and gather comments.  The representatives will explain the new zoning categories and provide the proposed map of what zones are in our area.

Citizens can comment in the meeting, discuss with representatives one-on-one, or schedule meetings to meet later.  You can schedule an appointment to discuss your zoning issue by calling 281-420-5394

The proposed zoning requirements for our neighborhood and the businesses along Bayway are different than what we have today. You are urged to attend, learn what has changed, and express you opinion.
