Minutes from Lakewood Civic Association 2013 Annual Meeting

by on May.24, 2013, under Association News

 Lakewood Civic Association Annual Meeting—May 21, 2013

Welcome—President Randy Dickey called the meeting to order and welcomed those attending.

Board member election results—Randy introduced the newly elected board members:  Bobby Bonds, Dell Cantrell, Tim Christensen, and JoAnne Eve.  He also recognized those members who have another year to serve on their two-year terms:  Mary Bagwell, Randy Dickey, Frank McKay, and Denise Pratt and thanked the outgoing members, Martha Goolsby and Monica Chauviere.

Treasurer’s Report—Treasurer Frank McKay reported a detailed account of income and expenses with a 4% increase in funds compared to last year. One of the major expenses was a large water bill from an undetected leak on one of the subdivision entrance signs. Upon request, a detailed report is available to members who did not attend.

Guest Speaker—The meeting’s guest speaker was Kelly Carpenter, who is the Baytown Director of Planning and Development Services. She is also a resident of Lakewood. Ms. Carpenter’s presentation focused on the recently enacted Baytown Zoning Ordinance and its impact on Lakewood. The main influence is the limiting of commercial construction adjacent to the  neighborhood and more requirements for home new construction.

City Councilman Report—City Council Brandon Capetillo discussed the following:

1.       The expected long term positive effects of new zoning.

2.       Council’s efforts to improve major cross-town streets such as the extension of Baker Road to the east.

3.       Completion of the painting of the city water towers

4.       City’s positive budget status

In response to a discussion of the traffic issues created by lengthy trains at various railroad crossings in the city, Brandon indicated that he would investigate potential solutions.

Club reports—

Helen Kerr, Lakewood Garden Club thanked the association for their support.

James Springer, the Lakewood Pool Club president, announced that their annual garage sale-fundraiser will be held Saturday, May 25, at the Lakewood Pool, 233 Greenbriar.  BBQ Sandwich plates will be sold from 11:00 a.m. until “gone.” Free swimming will be available from 12:00-8:00 p.m.  Donations for the garage sale can be dropped off at 116 Caldwell at any time prior to May 25.  Pick-up of items being donated is available.

Lindy Mouton mentioned that she would be conducting water aerobics classes at the pool.  For details, search the web for “Lakewood Pool Baytown.”

Chet Thesis invited people to participate in Lakewood Neighborhood Watch.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Bagwell

LCA Secretary

Brandon’s Bulletin – April 2013

by on Apr.04, 2013, under District 3 Council

Hello Neighbors,

I just want to take a quick minute to express my appreciation to the Lakewood Civic Association and Lakewood Garden Club for their continued efforts of ensuring we have a beautiful neighborhood to enjoy.  We are very fortunate to have such an active neighborhood community.

The City and I continue to identify streets within our area to recondition or reconstruct to provide safer roadway conditions.  A few park benches were recently installed at Travis Elementary Park for parents and children to have a place to rest and enjoy the play area. Also, you may have seen the water tower on Bayway Drive has recently been repainted and looks great. It is also good to see some new businesses have opened on Bayway and have improved the commercial properties. We continue to attempt to remove some of the visual blight along Bayway and address properties that degrade our area quality of life.

It is my distinct privilege to represent you on Baytown City Council and I look forward to seeing you out and about in the community. Please feel free to contact me by e-mail at district3@baytown.org , May God Bless you and your family.
