Park for Lakewood
by Randee King on Sep.16, 2022, under Association News
At the meeting with the City of Baytown on September 12, 2022, the City presented location options for a park along with several pros and cons for each location. Below are the charts they presented. We have also requested the City create a survey so people who could not attend the meeting will have a chance to provide their opinion. It’s exciting that the process has begun to create a park for Lakewood.

Lakewood Meeting – Monday, September 12 @ 6 pm
by Randee King on Sep.08, 2022, under Association News
Would you like to see more amenities for Lakewood? The Lakewood Civic Association has been working with the City to build a Dog Park for our neighborhood, and with input from residents there’s also a potential to include a separate play area for children or teens and perhaps even a walking track. A park would be a great enhancement for Lakewood which could increase home values and make Lakewood an even more desirable location to live.
We need your attendance to make this project happen. Please join us on Monday, September 12th at 6 pm at the Fire Training Field, located at 7022 Bayway Drive. The City of Baytown will be providing information and soliciting input.
Where to locate the park is key to having a safe, accessible location that takes into account the needs of the park users as well as the effect the park will have on neighbors and the environment. These pictures show maps where the City owns property in and around Lakewood where a park could be situated.

We hope to see you on September 12th!

Oyster Growing for a Healthier Bay
by Randee King on Aug.08, 2022, under Association News
The Lakewood Civic Association has partnered with the Galveston Bay Foundation to pilot growing oysters in Burnet Bay. Did you know one oyster filters 50 gallons of water a day helping to remove unwanted pollutants? However, oysters and their habitat are threatened by increasingly powerful storms (60% of oyster habitat was lost in Hurricane Ike), overharvesting and pollution. Our goal is to grow oysters and create an oyster reef which will serve as shelter for crabs, shrimp, and juvenile fish, and in turn serve as a food source for other wildlife. In addition, the oyster reefs help stabilize sediment on the bay bottom and can prevent erosion along shorelines while the oysters remove pollutants for a healthier bay.
