Good Neighbor Award Recipient
by Randee King on Jan.30, 2022, under Association News
Please help us recognize Fran and Kevin Parent as the latest recipients of the Lakewood Good Neighbor award. Fran and Kevin are pretty well known in our neighborhood. They have hosted several Christmas parties for children, providing homemade hot chocolate, snacks and photos with Santa. The children get to make a craft while enjoying some yummy food and the adults were given a beautiful flowering amaryllis or paperwhite that Kevin personally grows. Fran is also very crafty and has made and donated the yard signs for our Community Garage Sale and Halloween contest and now they get to enjoy the sign she made for this Good Neighbor award. We thank Fran and Kevin for being such good Lakewood neighbors.

City Empowerment Grant
by Randee King on Jan.10, 2022, under Association News

Great news! For the 2nd year in a row the Lakewood Civic Association (LCA) has been selected to receive an empowerment grant from the City of Baytown. Last year’s grant funded the supplies to build a 2nd entrance sign to Lakewood. This year’s grant will fund street sign toppers for the major entrance roads into the Lakewood subdivision.
The picture included in this post is just an example of a sign topper and not necessarily the one that will be installed. While the LCA asked if we could hold a contest for people to submit ideas for a graphic for the sign toppers we were told that the City will come up with 3 different designs and let us pick one. We can also decide if we want the neighborhood established date on the toppers. Once we receive the sign topper mock-ups we will post them via social media to get feedback to select the most popular one.

Lakewood Civic Association Board Recruitment
by Randee King on Jan.02, 2022, under Association News
Happy New Year Lakewood Subdivision Neighbors.
It’s time again to recruit volunteers for the Lakewood Civic Association Board of Directors. The Lakewood Civic Association (LCA) began in the 1940s to maintain Lakewood as a wonderful place to live. The LCA is a voluntary organization comprised of Lakewood residents, both homeowners and tenants, with 8 board members. Each year four Board positions come up for election.
You may ask, “What is it like to be part of the Board of Directors?” Although the purpose of the LCA is to solve community problems of common interest to the residents and property owners of the Lakewood subdivision, it is so much more than just enforcing deed restrictions. Some activities this past year include construction of the new Lakewood sign, starting the Good Neighbor Award, holding our 2nd annual Halloween Decorating contest, providing a Welcome Packet to new homeowners, supporting National Night Out, the Lakewood Garden Club, Boat Club and Lakewood Pool, having a clothing drive for local school children, and much more. Many people volunteer with LCA activities and the more volunteers the LCA has, the more that can be done.
The LCA Board typically meets once a month so it’s a small investment of time with a potential for big community impact. If you are interested in running for the LCA Board please send in your name, address and phone number by using the ‘Contacts’ tab on this website. You can also turn in a request to run for the LCA Board through the LCA Facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/LakewoodCivicAssociationBaytownTX/) or PM Randee King through Facebook. Nominations will be open until February 28th.
Thanks!
