Park for Lakewood

by on Dec.07, 2024, under Association News

The LCA continues to work with the City of Baytown to have a dog park with a children’s play area built in the Lakewood area. This presentation from the City shows the proposed park on slides 4 and 5. Slides 7 and 8 show potential equipment for the park.

Please follow the link below to review these slides. Let us know which equipment options you would like to have at the park by emailing the name(s) of the equipment to: LCA Board . We value input on the design and will send all suggestions back to the City who plans to finalize the design in the next few months.

by on Dec.03, 2024, under Association News

Attention all Santa Helpers!

Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with the Lakewood community, are excited to host the third annual Holiday Christmas Parade & Food Drive on Saturday, December 14th. We will be collecting non-perishable food items for Hearts and Hands of Baytown from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Parade will run from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you miss us, don’t worry—food donations can still be dropped off at Travis Elementary until 7:00 p.m.

How to Donate:

  • Along the Parade Route: Anyone who would like to donate non-perishable food items can flag down one of the golf carts in the parade. The carts will pick up your donations and deliver them to the food collection point at Travis Elementary.
  • At Travis Elementary: Community members can also drive to Travis Elementary School (100 Robin Rd, Baytown, TX 77520) to drop off their donations in person in the parking lot in front of the cafeteria, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Parade Details:

  • The parade will include a variety of vehicles, such as golf carts, ATVs, four-wheelers, bikes, motorcycles, cars, and trucks.
  • The parade will begin at 5:00 p.m. in front of Travis Elementary and end in the parking lot in front of the cafeteria.

We encourage all vehicles in the parade to be festively decorated for the holiday season! The LCA will award prizes to the top three decorated vehicles.

Important Parade Info:

  • Please arrive by 4:45 p.m. We will start the parade promptly at 5:00 p.m.
  • Judging will begin at the conclusion of the parade, so all the lights and decorations can be fully appreciated during the judging.

We look forward to seeing our wonderful community come together for this festive and charitable event!Attention all Santa Helpers!

Neighborhood Night Out

by on Oct.03, 2024, under Neighborhood Watch

What a wonderful time at Neighborhood Night Out. If you couldn’t make it you missed out on a very fun event. We had lots of yummy food and drinks thanks to ExxonMobil, Daniel’s and El Toro. There were games and SWAG plus Cornell Gordon from Parks & Recreation made a presentation regarding a park for Lakewood. Our superb fire department came out and let the kids try out the fire truck’s hose. The Wetlands Center brought a turtle, a baby alligator and a snake for people to hold. Two of the mayoral candidates came to answer questions and visit with our residents. Face painting was provided by our amazing neighborhood artist, Karen Knight. And much, much more.

There were crafts, face painting, games and so much more. ExxonMobil, El Toro, and Nothing Bunt Cakes donated prizes for our drawing. SWAG was provided by the City of Baytown, CRCU, and the Fire Department. But best of all was the enjoyable interactions with neighbors and community members.

A huge THANK YOU to the amazing group of volunteers that made this event happen: Tammy Barta, Linda Daniel, Karen Gordy, Joy Huntington, Randee King, Karen Knight, Lily Lord, Ken Martin, Byron & Lynda Nelson, Anita Nichols, Joanne Springer, and Carol & Chet Theiss. And another big THANK YOU to our sponsors: City of Baytown, CRCU. Daniel’s, El Toro, ExxonMobil, Fire Department, and the Lakewood Civic Association. My apologies if I missed mentioning any people or groups who helped.

Good Neighbor Award Recipient

by on Sep.11, 2024, under Association News

Please join us in recognizing Duane McLendon as the latest recipient of the Lakewood Good Neighbor award. Duane is always willing to help anyone in time of need. With the May derecho storm, Duane cleared a tree that had fallen across the roadway to make it passable. He helped the neighbors clean their yards, cut up limbs and hauled them to the road for pickup. During Hurricane Beryl he had two extra generators that he let the neighbors borrow to use for the six day power outage. He refueled the generators during the day to keep them running while the neighbors were at work as well as changing the oil to keep the generators running smoothly. Duane mows yards for people when they don’t have the time or days off to do it. If anyone has an issue with anything he’s the first one there to help! We thank Duane for being such a nice helpful neighbor!

If you would like to recognize someone in Lakewood for the Good Neighbor Award, please visit http://www.lakewoodcivic.org/?page_id=2404   This distinction is awarded on a quarterly basis and recognized with a yard sign and gift card.

by on Sep.05, 2024, under Association News

The Lakewood Civic Association is sponsoring a special performance of Baytown Little Theater’s “Queen of Bingo” on September 26th for LCA members.
