Good Neighbor Award Recipient

by on Apr.23, 2023, under Association News

Please help us congratulate Jennifer Simpson for being recognized as latest recipient of the Lakewood Good Neighbor Award. Jennifer goes out of her way to make a positive impact on our community. Last year she worked with the City to ‘Adopt’ a section of Bayway Drive from Pin Oak Drive to Baker Road to keep it clean. Jennifer has been coordinating the quarterly clean-ups along Bayway Drive, which presents a much nicer view coming into our neighborhood. Jennifer has also assisted with Neighborhood Watch and National Night Out.

Jennifer’s desire to help has made our neighborhood a better place. CONGRATS JENNIFER!

Please help us congratulate Lynda Nelson as the latest recipient of the Lakewood Good Neighbor Award. Lynda is well known in Lakewood for organizing fun games for children during Neighborhood Night Out and the Summer Kick-off Parties, hosting driveway movie nights with snacks during Christmas, and most recently organizing a food drive (at which she and hubby, Byron, were Santa and Mrs. Claus) in conjunction with the first-ever Holiday “golf cart” Parade through Lakewood. We thank Lynda for being a very kind and caring person and being such a good Lakewood Neighbor.

Lynda also received a $50 gift certificate from the LCA.

LCA Board Recruitment

by on Jan.02, 2023, under Association News

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN GETTING MORE INVOLVED WITH OUR NEIGHBORHOOD?

If so, please consider running for the Lakewood Civic Association Board.

It’s that time again where we encourage people to express interest in serving on the Lakewood Civic Association Board of Directors. The LCA was started in the 1940s to maintain Lakewood as a wonderful place to live. The LCA is a voluntary organization comprised of Lakewood residents, both homeowners and tenants, with 8 board members. Each year four Board positions come up for election.

You may ask, “What is it like to be part of the Board of Directors?” Although the purpose of the LCA is to solve community problems of common interest to the residents and property owners of the Lakewood subdivision, it is so much more than just enforcing deed restrictions. Some activities this past year include working with the City to identify and allocate funding for the design and construction of a park for Lakewood, having a Holiday Parade while collecting food donations for Helping Hands, increasing night visibility for the Lakewood Boat Ramp, piloting oyster growing in Burnet Bay, recognizing individuals for  the Good Neighbor Award, holding our 3rd Halloween Decorating contest, providing a Welcome Packet to new homeowners, supporting National Night Out, the Lakewood Garden Club, Boat Club and Lakewood Pool, having a clothing drive for local school children, coordinating Community Garage Sales and much more. Many people volunteer with LCA activities and the more volunteers the LCA has, the more that can be done.

The LCA Board typically meets once a month so it’s a small investment of time with a potential for big community impact. If you are interested in running for the LCA Board please send in your name, address and phone number by using the ‘Contacts’ tab on this website. You can also turn in a request to run for the LCA Board through the LCA Facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/LakewoodCivicAssociationBaytownTX/) . Nominations will be open until February 28th.

Thanks!

Lakewood Park

by on Dec.15, 2022, under Association News

Great news. The City has approved $220,000 to design and develop a park for our subdivision. Much thanks to everyone who has provided input and especially the Lakewood Civic Association Board and former Councilman Charles Johnson for pushing to make this park happen. I’ve been told in previous conversations with the City that we will get to give the City feedback on design prior to the park being built. More to come …

Food Drive & Holiday Parade

by on Nov.30, 2022, under Association News

Attention all Santa Helpers!

Santa and Mrs. Clause will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Hearts and Hands of Baytown on December 17th at Travis Elementary. This Food Drive will help feed the hungry in the Baytown community.

Additionally, there will be a Golf Cart parade! The LCA will host a Christmas Golf Cart Parade to assist with the food collections. Anyone along the parade routes wanting to donate non-perishable food items may flag down one of the Golf Carts in the parade, which will pick up and deliver those items to the Food Collection Point. Community members may also drive to Travis Elementary School to drop off the food items; at 100 Robin Rd, Baytown, Tx 77520, between 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

Please note: The Golf Cart Parade includes, Golf Carts, ATVs, Four Wheelers, Bikes, Motorcycles, Trucks, and anyone that might want to walk in the parade.  The Parade will run from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, starting in front of Travis Elementary and ending in front of the cafeteria. Lakewood Park Survey Results

by on Nov.08, 2022, under Association News

Thanks to everyone who took the time to fill out the park survey. The City received 184 responses, with the top location choice being the Pool property. Residents top amenities were a loop walking path, dog park with separate sections, playground and splash pad. The next steps are for all the properties to be evaluated more extensively by Parks and Recreation. Per the City, they have several things they need to do before a final decision is made. The City does not have a timeline yet on when that will be completed. We will post updates when we receive them.

Neighborhood Grant Options – Please Vote

by on Nov.06, 2022, under Association News

Lakewood has been extremely fortunate to have received Neighborhood Empowerment Grants from the City of Baytown for the last two years. With these funds we have a new Lakewood sign to beautify our neighborhood plus sign toppers to encourage a sense of belonging within the neighborhood and exhibit pride in our subdivision.

We once again have an opportunity to apply for a City grant. The feedback we received was discussed with the City as potential grant options:  1) A neighborhood block party with inflatables, food and games, 2) Solar Speed Radar Signs, 3) Walking Path along Pipeline Right-of-Ways, and 4) Moveable Road Sign for event announcements. The City felt that only the first two options would be competitive for grant funding.

The Block Party would have games, food and entertainment for adults, teens and children and include the purchase of yard games that can be used at multiple events. Those games could also be potentially loaned out to residents.

Solar Speed Radar signs would be a pilot for the City and be located initially on two of the speed limit sign posts in Lakewood. Studies have shown that when alerted by a radar sign, speeders will slow down 80% of the time with typical average speed reductions of 10-20%.

Please vote now by selecting one of the following options then click on ‘Vote”. Fingers crossed that it will be selected by the City for a grant.
