D. Spencer Carnes
by Randee King on May.18, 2022, under Association News
It is with deep sadness that the Lakewood Civic Association (LCA) mourns the passing of our long term Board member and friend D. Spencer Carnes. Spencer had a long and distinguished record as a community volunteer. As a LCA Board member and professional engineer, Spencer provided pro-bono services to projects in Lakewood, including analysis to show our new Lakewood entrance sign met the City’s wind load requirements and permitting calculations for the sign and fence at the Boat Ramp. Spencer’s company, Carnes Engineering, also recently donated Lercy’s gift certificates for the first 50 people who joined the LCA.
Spencer and his wife Joy took great pride in living in Lakewood. They have previously won the ‘Light Up Lakewood’ award for their beautiful holiday decorations and ‘Yard of the Month’ for their immaculate landscaping.
We were honored to work with Spencer and will miss him greatly.

Street Sign Topper Poll – 2nd Round
by Randee King on Feb.11, 2022, under Association News
The street sign topper that received the most votes for the major roads into our subdivision was the blue sign with houses, seagulls and waves. However some people were concerned that the houses looked like they had snow on the roofs with snow drifts in front. We went back to the City to see if the colors of the sign could be inverted or if the graphic color could be inverted inside an oval. While the City’s contract with the sign manufacturer does not include having a white sign with blue lettering, they are able to make blue houses and waves inside a white circle. So please vote for your preferred Street Sign Topper.
