A Night of FUN at a Baytown Little Theater Performance, FREE for LCA members

by on Sep.05, 2024, under Association News

The Lakewood Civic Association is sponsoring a special performance of Baytown Little Theater’s “Queen of Bingo” on September 26th for LCA members.

In the tradition of the hilarious Harvey Korman and Tim Conway sketches from the old Carol Burnett Show, comes the stage comedy The Queen of Bingo! ‘Sis’ and ‘Babe,’ two sisters on the other side of 50, want to add a little fun and excitement to their lives…but where to find it? BINGO!

Jeanne Michels and Phyllis Murphy’s The Queen of Bingo explores the worlds of Bingo, family ties, diet crazes, widowhood, hot flashes and winning! The audience joins in the fun during the “Middle Bird Special” – a real Bingo game where some lucky audience member will win a Special Gift! There will also be a Cake Walk ($5) during intermission. Theatregoers young and old will howl with laughter as two zany gals, light up the stage in the comedy hit The Queen of Bingo!

The show starts at 8 pm and there will be light refreshments available starting at 7 pm. Space is limited to 50 people for this free event.

If you would like to attend please respond to this email with your name, if you want 1 or 2 tickets and your phone number. You will receive confirmation if you will have a seat for this performance or will be placed on a waiting list.

Stray Cats

by on Feb.16, 2024, under Association News

Like most neighborhoods, we are seeing many stray cats, and kitten season is here. In an effort to control and reduce the population of stray cats, the Lakewood Civic Association is partnering with Toni TNR Tails, Inc. to trap, neuter/spay, vaccinate and return (TNR) stray cats in the Lakewood subdivision.

The initial priority will be for cats that someone is pretty confident are pregnant. If you are aware of any stray cats that are likely pregnant please message me with their location and description (photos are even better). Also let me know if you would like to assist in the effort of trapping and later releasing cats that have been spayed/neutered.

Thank you.

Good Neighbor Award Recipient

by on Feb.11, 2024, under Association News

Please join us in recognizing Madalyn Marquit as the latest recipient of the Lakewood Good Neighbor award. If you enjoy seeing the plants and flowers around the Lakewood sign at Post Oak Drive, give thanks to Madalyn. For years she has been taking care of the landscaping around the sign to beautify this entrance into the Lakewood subdivision. She has kept the plants alive through droughts, torrential rain and freezing weather. We thank Madalyn for her “green thumb” and being such a caring Lakewood neighbor.

If you would like to recognize someone in Lakewood for the Good Neighbor Award, please visit http://www.lakewoodcivic.org/?page_id=2404   This distinction is awarded on a quarterly basis and recognized with a yard sign and gift card.

LCA Board Recruitment

by on Feb.11, 2024, under Association News

If you are interested in getting more involved with our neighborhood, please consider running for the LCA Board.

The purpose of the LCA is to solve community problems of common interest to the residents and property owners of the Lakewood subdivision, but it is so much more than just enforcing deed restrictions. Some activities this past year include working with the City to make street repairs, representing Lakewood in emergency response discussions with ExxonMobil, participating in the City’s focus group for broadband access, improving the driving surface at the Lakewood Boat ramp with a generous donation from ExxonMobil, holding the 2nd annual Holiday Parade while collecting food donations for Helping Hands, continuing oyster growing in Burnet Bay to improve water quality, partnering with Texas Search and Rescue on their training operations, recognizing individuals with the Good Neighbor Award, holding another Summer Kickoff Party at the Lakewood Pool, providing a Welcome Packet to new homeowners, supporting National Night Out, the Lakewood Garden Club, Boat Club and Lakewood Pool, and coordinating Community Garage Sales. Many people volunteer with LCA activities and the more volunteers the LCA has, the more that can be done.

The LCA Board typically meets once a month so it’s a small investment of time with a potential for big community impact. If you are interested in running for the LCA Board please use the ‘Contacts’ tab and choose “Lakewood Civic Board’ to respond and send in your name, address and phone number. Self-nominations will be open until February 28th.
