Good Neighbor Award Recipient

by on Oct.23, 2021, under Association News

Please help us recognize Jamie and Kerry Watts as recipients of the Lakewood Good neighbor award.

Jamie and Kerry epitomize being good neighbors.  They have helped neighbors scrub floors, make home repairs, and assist with remodeling. They have mowed their elderly neighbor’s yard, comforted and supported another neighbor after the loss of their spouse as well as assisting many other neighbors when help was needed. Jamie and Kerry are happy to devote their time, talent and neighborliness to help others. We thank Jamie and Kerry for being such good Lakewood neighbors.

Neighborhood Grants – Suggestions Requested

by on Sep.27, 2021, under Association News

The City of Baytown has a grant program to improve neighborhoods. Last year 3 grant proposals were submitted: Beautification of entrances into Lakewood with flowering plants and trees (Lakewood Garden Club), a Back to School party with school supplies (Lakewood Neighborhood Watch), and a 2nd Lakewood sign with flower bed at Lakewood Drive and Bayway Drive (Lakewood Civic Association). Suggestions for a Dog Park as well as a Park for teens and adults were also sent in but those two suggestions were deemed too expensive by the City. However we were very fortunate and excited to have received grant money for the 2nd Lakewood sign and we now have a beautiful sign thanks to the City with volunteer help from the Sea Scouts, Civic Association and neighbors.

The City is again offering grants and we are willing to turn in grant applications although other groups are welcome to apply for a grant too. Please send us suggestions on what you would like to see to help enhance Lakewood. More info on these grants can be found at: https://www.baytownengage.com/grants

Those of you that are acquainted with Bobby know he is always one of the first people to volunteer to help others. Recently Bobby has assisted with almost every aspect of the new Lakewood sign and also with the Lakewood Boat Club registration. NEW LAKEWOOD ENTRANCE SIGN IS FINISHED!

by on Jun.20, 2021, under Association News

Drive by the corner of Lakewood Drive at Bayway Drive and you’ll see the new entrance sign to the Lakewood subdivision. It looks fantastic!

The Lakewood Civic Association (LCA) was selected to receive a grant from the City of Baytown to install this second neighborhood sign along with landscaping to replace the old sign that was destroyed when a vehicle hit it.

This project demonstrates the great teamwork we have in Lakewood. The new property owner gave us permission to have the sign at that location, the sign and landscaping was completed with all volunteer labor from Sea Scouts Ship 208, LCA members and others in the neighborhood, the LCA will maintain the sign and the Lakewood Garden Club will maintain the landscaping.

Constructing the sign has so many details that three Sea Scouts oversaw parts of it to help earn their Quartermaster award. Alex Primeaux was in charge of clearing the area and setting the foundation, Luke Clayburg was responsible for the sign casting and flagstone, and Kera Adamson coordinated the landscaping and watering system.

Special thanks to Randy Dickey for designing the sign as well as working on every aspect of this project, Spencer Carnes for his pro bono engineering work to show the sign meets City wind load requirements, Bobby Bonds for his assistance with every phase of the project, Ken Martin and Randee King for help running water lines and border, Frank McKay for the installing the lighting, and the City of Baytown for this grant money.
